Should I Buy a Stun Gun or a Taser Gun? What Are The Differences?

When it comes to your personal safety you need to make sure that you are prepared to ward off
attackers who wish to do you harm. It doesn't matter if you are a man or a woman; it's smart to have a
plan in place if someone decides to harm you.  For this reason it is advised to research different means
of protection. Everyone is different and tends to have a different preference on what type of defense
weapon they wish to use. For those who don't wish to carry around a gun but want a little more
protection than pepper spray can offer, might want look into the possibility or purchasing a stun gun or
    a taser gun.
Although similar in many aspects, a stun gun and a taser gun are not the same thing. A stun gun is a
weapon that allows you to disable your attacker by giving them a short non-lethal high voltage electric
shock. When you use a stun gun on someone you are basically giving them a charge of electricity that
won’t cause permanent damage, but will allow you a few minutes to get away. The charge confuses the
attacker's nervous system and causes movement and thought to be quite difficult for a short amount of
time. Most stun guns can be held in your hand and receive their power from a 9 volt battery. What's
nice is that the charge is strong enough to pass through heavy clothing, but there is no transference to
you if the attacker should touch you while you deliver a charge. The one downfall to a stun gun is that
you have to be within reach of your attacker in order to deliver the charge.
A taser gun uses much of the same technology as a standard stun gun. The attacker is stunned with
the same charge and reacts much the same way as with a stun gun. The main difference is that unlike
a stun gun, you don't have to be right next to the attacker to deliver the charge. The stun guns charge
electrodes are within the unit itself. With the taser gun, they are connected by wires. This is so that
when you pull the trigger on the taser gun it is propelled towards the attacker much like a gun. With the
help of small barbs, the wires latch onto the attacker and sends the shock the same way as a stun gun.
The advantage of a taser gun is that you don't have to be right next to the attacker, you can be within a
15 foot distance to shoot your attacker. Another advantage the taser has over the stun gun is that the
taser also functions as a contact stun gun if you do not wish to deploy the ‘darts’.
Before purchasing either type of weapon, you need to research the laws in your state, city, or county.
Stun guns and taser guns are restricted in certain areas. Either weapon is a great form of protection
depending on your preferences. The main difference between the two weapons is the stun gun is for
close contact stunning. The taser is for close contact stunning or the attacker can be shot at within 15
feet with ‘darts’ connected to the end of the 15 feet of wire.
